WHAT IS HAPPINESS?
Happiness is a state of being, an inside job.
Ultimately a state of mind. We can choose to be happy or not. Its an attitude and your attitude is a state of mind! Optimistic people are happier and so are positive people.
Positive psychologists believe we have a happiness ‘set point’.
Similar to a ‘weight set point’ they say we are born with a genetically determined barometer of happiness.
They attribute 50% of our happiness to our set point, that another 10% is determined by our circumstances
while the remaining 40% is attributed to our deliberate actions.

This evaluates to half of our happiness being by default,
40% by deliberate actions and 10% arising from our circumstances.

WHY BE HAPPY?
Positive emotions move people forward and lift them to a higher level of well-being.
Inducing positive emotions in yourself and others supports the path towards flourishing and healthy longetivity, ie people are happier which brings expansion to opportunities. In grasping these opportunities we become healthier mentally and physically and enjoy life more and live longer.
Happy people endure pain and suffering substantially better than those less happy individuals. When bad things happen to happy people they have more resilience and bounce back to normality faster.
